Key steps to avoid malaria

Be aware of the risk
and symptoms
Anyone can get malaria. Be aware of the symptoms, including high temperature, headache, shivering and tiredness, which usually develop between 7 to 18 days after being bitten. Risk depends on the location of travel, season of travel, length of stay, activities to be undertaken, type of accommodation.*

Avoid being bitten
by mosquitoes
Avoiding being bitten by an infected mosquito is an essential part of malaria protection. Simple, practical steps (such as using DEET based insect repellent and sleeping in a room with screened windows and doors) should be used in combination with antimalarial medicine for maximum protection.*

Use chemo prophylaxis
(antimalarial medicines)
Use chemo prophylaxis (antimalarial medicines)
Chemoprophylaxis is the use of drugs to prevent disease, in this case antimalarial medicine. Antimalarial medicines such as Maloff Protect work by preventing the malaria parasite from infecting your red blood cells. Anti-malarials need to be taken for a number of days before you travel and usually for at least 7 days after leaving a malaria area.*

Immediately seek diagnosis and treatment if a fever or other symptoms develop
Seek help if a fever or other symptoms develop
See a doctor immediately if you get any symptom you think might be malaria, particularly within three months of returning from a malaria area but even up to one year after travel*
*Please read the Maloff Protect Patient Information Leaflet for more information, including a full list of malaria symptoms, practical steps to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and how to take Maloff Protect.
